TXT Message

I've spent the weekend with a lovely group working with a variety of methods to get text onto cloth.

We screenprinted thickened dye and scraped it through stencils. During class we also cut custom stencils which the students could take home for future use.

I demonstrated methods with the stencils and also stamps including the indispensable foam alphabet stamps that we love so much.

Students mixed and matched techniques to suit their own styles and the projects they had in mind.

The walls were quickly filled with some beautiful and colourful lengths of fabric.

Layering was key and students experimented with adding further text and pattern using pigment based products such as paint, markers and coloured pencils.

It was a productive weekend. This is just a small taster of what the students created. If I've whetted your appetite for trying some surface design techniques then DMTV viewers can look forward to a mini series of video workshops covering some of the methods. These'll be going live on the website over the next few weeks.

Hope you've had an enjoyable and creative weekend too.
Bye for now,
Laura
