New Work - Landscape Painting

I usually find myself making work for a DMTV project, or for an exhibition, so it has been a real treat to just make something for our house. The niche above the fireplace has been empty and crying out for a piece of artwork for ages. The painting I've done is just propped up at the moment while I decide if it's finished or not. The colours here look a little stark in the photo. I think it's richer in real life, a bit more subtle.

It's a collage with painting, acrylic on MDF panel. Here are a few details...

And a photo of my palette because I couldn't resist!

Bye for now,

  1. It’s lovely! I wonder if you’d consider doing a DMTV video on how you approach an abstract. I’m intimidated to try one although I have the supplies.

    1. I think that might be something we can put on the list for DMTV at some point. It's funny though, I see it as quite a realistic, rather than abstract painting! Could be something interesting to talk about in a workshop. I'll definitely keep it in mind.

  2. It is beautiful. I find it "warming", or maybe it is because I'm cold this morning and envious of your fireplace. What I love about this besides the colors, is the fact that so many of the elements make me think of you. I love the illusion of the sun behind the trees. It is perfect for that spot. (Speaking of the right piece of art for a spot, I have had this dark wall that I had filled with bookcases. It looked so uninspired and boring. I moved out a bunch of books to the local library and got rid one bookcase (shock!). The poppy quilt now brightens that wall and looks like it was made for that spot. It has gotten so many compliments. I wish I had hid a recorder behind it so you could hear the glowing praise of your art.)

  5. This is the perfect place for your picture :-) As always, you inspire me, and thanks to the videos, I'm trying for the first time with painting ... I'll go now and buy acrylic ink and paper :-)
Now I understand what you had in mind when you showed us the videos "Collage Papers" and "Using White - Three Ways". Amazing!
