September Garden Highlights

The colour of September has to be red. The big trees in our garden are all turning and look amazing with the sun behind the leaves. I think I must photograph them every year. Don't you just love those accents of lime green with the burnt oranges?

The dahlia's are still in fine form. This coral-y coloured one is pretty dramatic and what a wonderful form to try to draw. I'll put it on the list.

We have a little woodland area in the garden which I've been working on since we moved here adding ferns, cyclamen and bulbs, but it's the naturalised autumn crocus that are looking pretty at the moment. They're papery delicate and the stems a little flimsy for the big blooms, but still a welcome sight at the end of the season.

Other things in the garden are less delicate. We tried to grow pumpkins for Halloween last year but failed for various reasons. This year we've planted them in a spot they obviously love. It's hard to convey scale, but this one is gigantic. I'm not sure I'll even be able to pick it up and get it in the wheel barrow. It's certainly going to be a pretty epic task to carve it.

The pumpkin plants know no bounds and are scrambling up and over our hedge. It's slightly surreal to be able to walk under the enormous leaves!

Thanks for dropping by.
Back soon,
Laura

  8. Glad to see you're back (a gentle stroll rather than a full gallop). Thought of you last night as I sat in a weird tilting chair thing to give blood. Mine won't go your way ( eastern region) but it's nice to hear of a recipient. Hope your recovery continues and this wS just some weird blip. Xxx
