Sunday School and the PopUp Shop

It's been an action packed day. Today we staged the first Fingerprint Sunday School workshop and PopUp Shop. Even though it takes all of five minutes to get to the village hall, there was still an early start to get everything set up ready for students and visitors to arrive. Jamie's been working really hard to get lots of fabric printed in time for today including some new designs. They seemed to be popular and so we'll be adding those to the website over the coming weeks.

I was focussed on getting everything ready for the students. The workshop was called Pages to Print and the idea was to create designwork on paper that could then be printed to fabric. The morning was spent generating lots of raw materials for collage, we painted, printed and made rubbings. After a homemade lunch courtesy of Mom, we got stuck in using all the beautifully decorated papers and I challenged the students to make up to three designs for digital print. They produced some really lovely work. I'd taken along lots of print blocks, wire shapes for rubbings and a box full of found and decorated papers that were up for grabs. It was fun to see how my things were transformed and used in different ways.

The students have left their completed art work with us and we'll now scan or digitally photograph them ready for print. Included in the workshop fee is half a metre of custom printed cotton, enough for three wallhanging panels, cushions, placemats of just some lovely fabric for using in quilts. Although it's a busy time in the print studio we've set aside time to print all the cloth ready for collection from our stand during Festival of Quilts. I'm really excited to see how the fabrics turn out and to hear about what the students make with it all!

Meanwhile in the other end of the PopUp Shop was set up and also a table piled up with sketchbooks. It was lovely to see both new and familiar faces enjoying a cup of tea and a cake while browsing through them. If you couldn't make it today, we hope to see you at Festival of Quilts instead. Do come and drop by our stand and say hello!

Bye for now,
Laura

  1. I would have loved to hop a jet and fly over the Atlantic for this day with you. Your students created some gorgeous papers. I bet there were tired students with huge smiles on their faces.

  2. Well we had a wonderful day and I must say I was quite tired but the happiness overrode that (or was that the cake, biscuits, lunch and croissants!!). Very excited about what the printed result will turn into. Thank you Laura, Linda and all your wonderful family in making such a wonderful day happen.

  4. The papers look wonderful. It is great that designs will be printed onto fabric. Have to see what I can do and send over for printing wish I could have come to class but Australia is a little too far.
